Best Set of Markers!

One of my favorite finds was a pack of 100 markers. I first saw them at a friends house. Her daughter received them as a gift from a family member out of town. So the hunt was on. I searched on line, and looked for the best pricing. Now in our possession, we have a rule. Take one out at a time and replace it before using another one! These are great  markers and so versatile. And yes, there are 100 different colors, each one individual. If you are interested in getting your own set, here's a link. Pro Art Marker Set, 100 Colors

Melted Art

You have probably seen these all over Pinterest.

We decided to add our own little twist to the idea. We didn't want to waste brand new crayons. Since we have young children at home, we have a ton of half used, broken crayons. So, that is what we used. To begin, we peeled all the paper off the crayons that had paper on them and broke them all into smaller pieces. From the pile a selection of pieces were chosen and then hot glued down to card stock paper.

Same as the original art, we took it outside and began to heat things up with the blow dryer. Instead of letting it drip in one direction, we rotated the paper around as the crayons began to drip. Each time, it creates a unique creation. My kids thought it was so cool to watch the crayons melt and mix together. It was unexpected to them because I didn't tell them what we were doing before hand.

A few suggestions: Watch out with the blow dryer, it does get hot and so does the paper. Don't burn your fingers. And if you do it with children, have them stay clear of the heat and only handle their artwork once it has cooled a bit. Final suggestions, not the best craft on a windy day.

Free Vintage Patterns Online

Vintage, antique and public domain patterns are a terrific resource for needlepoint enthusiasts, and these patterns are readily available for FREE on the internet (and we all love the free stuff!)

Many designers utilize public domain charted materials to create new designs for both needlepoint and cross stitch, with the bulk of the designs created from these resources being offered freely on various designers' blogs.

A list of some of favorites, completely free online resources for you to browse. Most of them can be downloaded in a pdf format whole or in parts, while others may be saved to your computer page-by-page. Directions for saving the patterns are available on most sites.

Check out the booklets for cross stitch, punto de marca, punto de cruz, tapisserie and stickerie as these are always charted. Designs range from simple and elaborate alphabets to borders, florals, pastoral scenes and more!

Be sure to browse the patterns for filet crochet as well, as these designs are often charted and feature simple designs that translate easily to needlepoint! Images for filet crochet range from flower urns and hunting scenes to alphabets and cherubs.

This list on the Free Patterns Page here on the site as well (look under Needlepoint Projects by Theme), to make it easy to find.

Fun with Shrink Art

One evening, I was home with just the girls. I decided we should do a craft project to fill our
time without daddy. I printed out a flower pattern from the computer onto Shrink Art. We first colored in the design on the same side the design was printed on; unfortunately, those results were not terrific. The next try, we printed the same design and then colored on the reverse side.

Using a hole punch before shrinking, created the small hole for hanging upon finishing.
The colors used were permanent markers.
If you would like to try this on your own, you can download the design I used for free at this link.
